What is Invisalign?

Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment that relies on a set of clear aligner trays to gradually straighten your teeth. The aligners are custom-made to mold around your teeth for a comfortable fit. Aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours a day to reach your desired smile goals. Many of our patients prefer Invisalign over traditional braces due to their comfort and discreet appearance.

The Benefits of Invisalign

Patients favor Invisalign due to its many benefits, including:

Faster treatment: With biweekly aligner changes, you’re on your way to your dream smile even faster. Most patients can achieve stunning results in half the time as braces.

Proven results: The SmartTrack® material and SmartForce® features of Invisalign clear aligners are clinically proven to improve control of tooth movement.

Better fit: Aligners made from SmartTrack material are comfortable, fit snugly and are easy to put on and take off.

Virtually invisible: Most people won’t even know you’re undergoing treatment because the clear aligners are virtually invisible!

Comfortable: Invisalign clear trays are not only smooth and comfortable to wear, but they’re also removable. That means you can continue doing all the things you normally would, from brushing and flossing to eating whatever you like.

Convenient: Invisalign treatment is ideal for your busy schedule since you only need to visit our Seattle dental office every six weeks.

The Invisalign Process

Your First Consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Johnson will discuss your orthodontic goals and examine your oral health to determine whether Invisalign treatment is right for you. If we determine Invisalign isn’t the ideal option, we’ll recommend an alternative cosmetic treatment to achieve your smile goals. A consultation is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about Invisalign.

Your Custom Treatment Plan

We’ll use a scanner such as the iTero® digital scanning system to create fast, precise 3D digital images of your teeth. Then we’ll map out a precise treatment plan, including the exact movements of your teeth and how long your treatment will be. You’ll even see how your teeth will move and preview your new smile.

Your Invisalign Aligners

Your custom-made aligners will be made of Invisalign’s proprietary SmartTrack® material. Aligners are virtually invisible, so most people won’t even notice you’re wearing them. You must wear your Invisalign clear aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day for the best results, taking them out only to eat, drink something other than water, brush, and floss.

Your Progress

As you wear each set of aligners, your teeth will gently and gradually shift into position. We recommend that you begin wearing a new set of aligners every two weeks, as each set is specifically designed to influence a certain set of teeth. It’s important to schedule checkups every six weeks so our Seattle, WA dentists can ensure your treatment is on track.

Taking Care of Your New Smile

When your treatment is complete, ask us about Vivera® retainers. Vivera retainers are custom-made using the same state-of-the-art technology as Invisalign clear aligners. These retainers will help you maintain your new smile for a lifetime!

Does the Invisalign treatment hurt?

Invisalign treatment isn’t as painful as traditional metal braces. However, you may feel slight discomfort when you begin to wear your custom aligner trays. These trays gradually shift your teeth over time, which can cause some mild soreness when you begin. In the first week, our patients report feeling soreness, mild pain, and a lisp. Though, these feelings will fade once you get accustomed to the aligners.

Any feeling of pain can be relieved with over-the-counter pain medications. If the pain continues, contact our Seattle, WA office at (206) 682-3888 right away.

How long does Invisalign take to straighten your teeth?

For most patients, the duration of their Invisalign treatment can take anywhere between 12 and 18 months to complete. It may take longer depending on your oral condition. However, you’ll achieve a straighter smile with Invisalign twice as fast as you would with traditional braces.

Is Invisalign a permanent solution?

Yes, Invisalign can be a permanent solution to orthodontic issues. As long as you follow all guidelines while wearing Invisalign and continue to once your treatment is complete, you’ll achieve a lifetime of healthy smiling. Make sure you follow Dr. Johnson’s aftercare instructions so you can get the most out of your Invisalign treatment.
